I like the top one - I think it's the pose, but it works for me.
As for the scientist; I like the idea of a white suit instead of a lab coat, and the pipe, but I'm not sure about the big bushy beard and bulky frame - they both feel a little too "heroic" to me. Also, the forehead mirror is something medical doctors use, and I think it confuses the "scientist" message a little.
